TVF&R's Preparedness

As the H1N1 influenza pandemic generated increasing impact in our region, TVF&R took preventive measures to protect its emergency responders, maintain its ability to deliver emergency services to the community, and reduce the spread of influenza.

Towards that goal, we maintained appropriate personal protective equipment for use on medical calls, implemented several workplace infection control measures, and vaccinated our emergency responders.

TVF&R has been involved in pandemic planning on the state and local levels since 2002. TVF&R personnel from EMS, Emergency Management, and Health & Wellness were engaged in preparing the District for the impact of the H1N1 pandemic since the outbreak in the spring of 2009.  Even though H1N1 influenza activity has waned considerably, we continue to work with Public Health, EMS, Emergency Management, and other key players on the state, regional, and local levels to ensure that our plans are in line with national recommendations and consistent with our partner agencies.  We are acting on lessons from the 2009 response so that we can be better prepared for either another pandemic wave or the next disease outbreak.
