Building Collaborative Disaster Planning Processes between Hospitals and Emergency Management (AWR-205)

This course is designed to assist participants in the creation and sustainment of regional partnerships for regional homeland security collaboration. Homeland security is presented as an issue that requires the best efforts and collaboration of the whole community across jurisdictional boundaries, including the public and private sector. Participants are given the information needed to begin and enhance the development of regional collaboration between multiple sectors, jurisdictions, regions, and states in building cooperative capabilities.  This training covers the development and maintenance of pre-incident plans that ensure the sharing of information and resources, the efficient distribution of patients, and the coordination between state and local agencies with hospitals and others responding to the medical needs of disaster victims.

Hospital Evacuation: Principles and Practices

This one-hour course will take the participant through the stages of preparing for a facility evacuation. It begins by performing an assessment of possible vulnerabilities and the resources available to a facility. Next, the course walks the learner through the development of a functional plan for a healthcare facility, identification of key positions staffed when a facility evacuates, and the roles and responsibilities of each. The course concludes by addressing recovery issues. At the completion of the course, hospitals and other healthcare providers with inpatient or resident beds will have basic training and tools to develop an evacuation plan.
